The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) is Australia's
national public broadcaster, known previously as the Australian
Broadcasting Commission. With a budget of AUD$823 million annually,
the corporation provides television, radio, online and mobile services throughout metropolitan and regional Australia, as well as overseas through the Australia Network and Radio Australia. Through its commercial arm, ABC Commercial, the corporation runs a chain of retail outlets, selling books, audio and video recordings, and other merchandise related to its programs. Founded in 1929 as the Australian Broadcasting Company, it was subsequently nationalised and made a state-owned corporation on July 1, 1932, becoming the Australian Broadcasting Commission. Following this, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation Act 1983 changed the name of the organisation to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation effective July 1, 1983.The corporation produces programmes and information services, broadcasting nationally on television, radio, and the Internet.
The Special Broadcasting Service (SBS) is one of two government funded Australian public broadcasting radio and television networks. The stated purpose of SBS is "to provide multilingual and multicultural radio and television services that inform, educate and entertain all Australians and, in doing so, reflect Australia's multicultural society".
National Indigenous Television, funded by the Commonwealth of Australia, is produced in Sydney and broadcast via Imparja Television's existing satellite capacity. The idea for a national, indigenous television service was initially conceived by the National Indigenous Radio Service (the peak Indigenous radio group), which initially lobbied the government to start a new, nationwide indigenous television network. Although no major political party championed this cause, commercial broadcaster Imparja Television stated in 2004 that it would run such a network, at least within its own license area. In 2005 the federal Department of Communications, Information Technology and the Arts considered funding such a station, and conducted a review process. On July 13, 2007 NITV launched, replacing Indigenous Community Television on the Optus Aurora remote satellite service.

One of three major free-to-air commercial networks in Australia, its retired slogan the long-running "Still The One" refers to the network's past ratings success, being the most popular television station on a national basis since the introduction of television in Australia. Prime Television is an Australian television network owned by Prime Television Limited. Prime Television launched on March 17, 1962 as CBN/CWN in Orange and Dubbo, New South Wales, and has since expanded to cover regional New South Wales, Victoria and the Australian Capital Territory as a Seven Network affiliate. Prime's administration and broadcast facilities are based in Canberra, alongside the network's parent company Prime Television Limited and the playout facilities for the Golden West Network. WIN Television is an Australian television network owned by the WIN Corporation that is based in Wollongong, Australia. WIN commenced transmissions on March 18, 1962 as a single Wollongong-only station, and has since expanded to 24 owned-and-operated stations with transmissions covering a larger geographical area than any other television network. Southern Cross Television, or Southern Cross, is an Australian television network available in Tasmania, Darwin, Regional South Australia, and Central Australia . Although the programming varies from region to region, all areas are affiliated with the Seven Network and, in some areas, have a dual affiliation with either the Nine Network or Network Ten. On November 5, 2007, Southern Cross Television was officially purchased by the Macquarie Media Group. Broadcast area – Tasmania, Darwin, Western South Australia, Central Australia.
Imparja Television (referred to on-air and in print as Nine Imparja since 2008) is an Australian television network servicing remote eastern and central Australia, that began broadcasting on January 2, 1988. It is based in Alice Springs, where it has a studio and satellite uplink facility. Notably, it is controlled by Australian Aborigines and is widely regarded as a symbol of Aboriginal Australia. Most viewers receive Imparja via free to view satellite transmission, whilst a smaller proportion receive the network via analog terrestrial transmission. Imparja is an Arrernte word meaning footprints. The word is used to represent that Imparja Television aims to service Arrente people wherever they may live, from Mutitjulu to King's Canyon to Alice Springs to Tennant Creek and beyond. They describe their range as a footprint. Broadcast area – remote Eastern regions, remote Central regions.
Tasmanian Digital Television (TDT, callsign TDT-11) is a digital television station in Tasmania, Australia. It is jointly owned by the WIN Corporation and Macquarie Media Group, and largely managed by WIN Television.
